CHILL Program

CHILL Programs

The Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi and the Maquam Bay of Missisquoi are hoping to work with the CHILL Program this spring to provide Abenaki youth with the opportunity to learn to skateboard. The program will bring all the necessary equipment, so there will be no need for parents to purchase anything.  As soon as we have all the details in place, we will send out information on how to participate. You can also check out the CHILL Program by clicking on this link, https://www.chill.org/programbreakdown.

With the arrival of the Omicron variant of COVID, the rates of COVID cases have been higher than ever. To assist our community, the Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi and the Maquam Bay of Missisquoi have set up a COVID vaccine clinic at our tribal office that will happen on the last Monday of each month from 4:00 – 6:00 (except for May when the clinic will be on May 23 from 4:00 – 6:00.)

Our tribal office also has COVID home test kits, masks, hands sanitizer, and disinfecting cleaning wipes free for anyone in the community that needs them. Please call the office on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday to arrange to pick up any of these items. There is a limit of 2 COVID test kits per person. Our phone number is 802-868-6255.

If you know of anyone who would like a COVID vaccination or booster but is homebound, please call the tribal office and we will arrange to have someone go to the home to provide the vaccination. The tribal office phone number is 802-868-6255.

Blackie Lampman Maquam Bay of Missisquoi Abenaki Scholarship

Community Health and Wellness

Chronic Disease Programs

A mother, grandmother and a third generation native Vermonter with a passion for photography I love to wander the hills and valleys for the perfect nature or wildlife shot. An added plus is the opportunity to forage for edible and medicinal plants along the way as did my grandmother and great-grandmother before me. A former educator with over twenty five years in the Vermont public schools, I love to read and consider any day that I learn something new from either books or conversations with others; a good day! As an artist who works in many different mediums, I love to create and thoroughly appreciate the original work of others and hope someday to aspire to their level of expertise.  Always a collector of historical items too numerous to mention, I find the personal histories behind each and every one fascinating and often use them in presenting programs which highlight the history of our amazing world!

I am delighted to be the new Community Program Facilitator for the Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi and sincerely hope that my skills and hard work will directly benefit the upcoming programs and continued success of the tribe as a whole! I welcome your input in making that goal a reality and look forward to getting to know and appreciate each and every one of you!

Health Equity Advisory Commission - 2021 Act 33

In 2021, the Vermont State Legislature passed Act 33, an act relating to addressing disparities and promoting equity in the health care system. As part of this act, a Health Equity Advisory Commission was to be formed with the charge of promoting health equity and eradicating health disparities among Vermonters, including particularly those who are Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color; individuals who are LCBTQ; and individuals with disabilities. One member of each of the four Vermont state recognized Abenaki bands was appointed to this commission. Joanne Crawford, one of our Maquam Bay of Missisquoi board members, is the appointee for our tribe. Act 33 in its entirety can be found here, https://legislature.vermont.gov/Documents/2022/Docs/ACTS/ACT033/ACT033%20As%20Enacted.pdf!
